Getting started

What does KinsWell actually do?
It coordinates care for one person living independently — most commonly an ageing parent, but equally an adult with a disability in their own home, or a family member recovering after surgery — across everyone who looks after them. Carers scan a QR code at the home to see the day’s tasks and medications, tick them off, and leave notes. Family members see what happened in real time, on any device, without needing to call or check in.
Does KinsWell manage medications?
No. KinsWell is a care-coordination tool, not a medication record. The pharmacy’s blister pack and your loved one’s care plan are the authoritative source for what they take, when, and at what dose. KinsWell lets you list the medications so carers see a reminder on the day’s checklist — and so the family can see they were handed over — but the dose, schedule, and clinical decisions stay with the pharmacist and any registered nurse involved. In New Zealand, unregulated carers are generally only permitted to assist with pre-packed Medication Compliance Aids (blister / Webster packs), not to dispense from bottles or determine doses. KinsWell’s medication list reflects what the pharmacy has packed, not what we recommend.
Do my carers need to download an app?
No. Carers scan a printed QR code with their phone camera. That opens the checklist in their browser. There’s nothing to install, sign up for, or remember.
What devices does it work on?
Any modern phone, tablet, or computer with a recent browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox). For carers, an iPhone or Android with a working camera is enough.
How long does setup take?
About 10–15 minutes. Most of that is typing in your daily tasks and medications. After that, printing and sticking up the QR code is the only physical step.

For families

Can multiple family members use the same household?
Yes. Invite as many as you want from Manage → Members. Each gets a role: admin (full control), member (can see everything and message), viewer (read-only).
Can I look after more than one parent or in-law?
Yes. Family Plus covers two households on a single subscription. Each household has its own QR code, tasks, medications, members, and feed.
Will I get notifications when a carer visits?
New visits and alerts appear on your dashboard in real time. Email and push notifications are on the roadmap; for now, opening the dashboard or visit feed gives you everything as it happens.
Can I leave a comment for the next carer?
Yes. Comments on a visit show up for the next carer who scans in, and pinned messages on the Messages page stay visible until you remove them. That’s how handover happens without phone calls.
Can I export the medication schedule for a doctor?
Yes. On the Medications page, click Print schedule for a clean, paper-ready view. Print it or save it as a PDF from your browser’s print dialog.

For carers

I scanned the QR code. What happens?
You’ll be asked for a PIN (if the family set one), then to pick your name and the type of visit. After that, you’ll see the day’s checklist. Tap a task to mark it done, leave a note or a photo, then tap End visit when you finish.
I forgot to save my note before tapping End visit. Did I lose it?
No. Anything you typed into a note, an ad-hoc task, or a ticked checklist item is saved automatically when you end the visit.
I don’t have the medication PIN.
Ask the family. The medication PIN is separate from the carer entry PIN and only covers the medication section, you can still do tasks, notes, and photos without it.
I’m not on the name list.
Choose + Add new name and type yours. The family will see you on their Carers list next time they look.

For care providers

Can I manage multiple clients?
Yes. Provider plans cover 5, 10, 30, or 50 clients. The Provider dashboard rolls up every client’s recent visits and alerts in one view, and you can switch into any client to manage their tasks, meds, and team.
What happens if I hit my client limit?
We block adding a new client until you upgrade or remove an existing one. Existing clients keep working as normal.
Can I hand a client over to a family member or another provider?
Yes. On Manage, the household owner can transfer ownership to another member. Their subscription then governs the client cap, and they’re auto-promoted to admin.
Do you support NDIS or HCP billing?
Not directly. KinsWell handles coordination and visit records, not funding line items. It pairs well with a back-office system that does that side of things.

Privacy and security

Where is my data stored?
On managed cloud infrastructure, encrypted at rest by our database provider and transmitted over HTTPS. Photos are served through signed, time-limited URLs. PINs and passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes; we never see them in plain text. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Can carers see everything?
They see what they need for the visit: the daily checklist, medication schedule (unless gated by the optional med-PIN), any pinned or active messages, and recent notes. They don’t see family member names, billing, or other clients.
What happens if I lose my phone with the QR code on it?
The QR code itself just opens the entry page; without the PIN (and, if set, the medication PIN), no one can start a visit. You can also regenerate the QR code on the QR Code page, which immediately invalidates the old one.
How do I delete my account?
On My account, you can delete your user. If you own a household, transfer ownership or delete the household first. That removes everyone’s access and all the records.

Billing

Is there a free trial?
Yes. 1 month, no card required up front. You can cancel any time during the trial without being charged.
How do I pay?
Card is the default. In some regions you can also pay by manual bank transfer; we reconcile those manually. Talk to support if you need that option.
What’s the difference between Family and Family Plus?
Family ($24.99/mo) covers one household. Family Plus ($44.99/mo) covers two, for split families or a parent and an in-law. Tasks, medications, photos, and family members are unlimited either way.
Can I change plans later?
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade at any time from My account. If you downgrade below your current household count, you’ll need to remove or transfer the extras first.
